The Osceola Fire and Rescue Department along with help from the Polk County Sheriffs Office, Star Care 5 Life Flight, Roberts/Dubas Funeral Home and Nebraska Health and Human Service held a docudrama on April 16, 2007. The department holds these docudramas every four years in conjunction with Osceola High Schools Prom and upcoming Graduation. The purpose of the docudrama is to show students the consequences of drinking and driving and the effects on everyone involved. This is the fourth docudrama held and this time Star Care 5 out of Lincoln flew their helicopter in to make the scene even more real. The students not only see their peers involved but also the different duties that each department have to go through. The students were picked by Osceola High School Guidance Councilor Marla Teegerstrom. The Osceola Fire and Rescue Department would like to thank the student participant, Morgan Walgreen, Jordan Kuhnel,Brett Harell and Landon Peterson. After the accident scene the students meet in the gym and heard Fire Chief Allen Willits, Ambulance Manager Carlie Davidson along with one of the Star Care Flight Nurses. We think it has been a very successful program not only to open the students eyes to the possibilities of drinking and driving but also a look into the Fire, E.M.S., and Law Enforcement as a volunteer/ career possibility. The Osceola Fire and Rescue Department would like to thank the Osceola Public Schools System for letting us hold the docudrama. Rick Rieck and Ray Watts for donating the automobiles. And the Polk County Sheriff, Star Care 5, Nebraska Health and Human Services and Roberts/Dubas Funeral Home for their participation. A special thanks goes out to Sandy Thompson of the Polk County News for the pictures she took for us. Any interested departments can get a hold of us if they are interested in starting such a docudrama.
